What Makes Sammy Run-Rare Cinescope DVD

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Budd Schulberg's notorious novel of blind ambition in old Hollywood was twice adapted for live TV. Broadway actor Larry Blyden stars as Sammy Glick, a man who doesn't care who he walks over to get to the top, in this 1959 production, which was broadcast live on NBC's "Sunday Showcase" over two nights. John Forsythe, Barbara Rush and Dina Merrill co-star. The disc was mastered from a kinescope recording (a process of filming directly from a TV screen) and is accordingly low fidelity. Features commentary by stars Merrill and Rush, and a 2008 interview with Schulberg, whose speech is subtitled for clarity.

What Makes Sammy Run?

I’m reading “What Makes Sammy Run" for the third time now, and for good reason. It’s the type of story that’s so gripping, you wish it would last longer. Budd Schulberg is a master at painting a picture in words, and it’s unfortunate that he didn’t write tons more books. I recommend Sammy as a must read. Five Stars!
