Blossom Dearie 82- R.I.P.
It brings me great sadness to know that I will never hear Blossom Dearie sing live in person again. Her voice had a sweet unique quality, to some an acquired taste, but not for me. I was hooked the moment I heard her sing Dave Frishberg’s “I’m Hip” on a television show when I was only fourteen years old. To some she is considered an American treasure, leaving behind a great body of work since 1952. If you remember the Schoolhouse Rock animated shorts from the 1970’s, you will know the voice of Blossom Dearie, as she was featured on the episode “Figure 8” (of the little girl ice skating). I’ll never forget seeing her at Danny’s Skylight Room in Manhattan some years back, and what a gracious presence she was. Thanks For Being You Blossom-You enriched my life.
