Hosted by Billy Crystal, narrated by Amy Sedaris, Make Em Laugh is a six part documentary that has recently been showing on PBS in tandem with it’s 3 CD box set release. (Warner/Rhino). I’ve seen five of the six installations so far and hafta say, it’s a very good primer for the viewer who has no reference to the history and evolution of comedy. Unfortunately, there isn’t quite enough time to show enough of the actual material by the groundbreaking comedians that are highlighted in the series. It’s more up to the viewer to go further and seek out the bodies of work in order to fully digest these great geniuses. Aside from that minor quip, I still recommend it-Four Stars-A+ for effort.
