It grieves me to know that another favorite musician of mine has left us. Orlando “Cachaito” Lopez passed on earlier this week in Havana, Cuba at age 76. Lopez enjoyed a career that spanned over six decades, beginning with Orquesta Riverside in the late 40’s, and gaining international recognition later in life from his involvement with the Buena Vista Social Club. Cachaito was the nephew of Israel “Cachao” Lopez (my biggest hero), father of the Mambo, who died last year at age 89.
