George Russell-Jazz In The Space Age

Photobucket

George Russell is an unsung hero of jazz, especially in the composition department.
Over fifty years ago he developed what is known as the Lydian Chromatic Concepts Of Tonal Organization, (highly influenced by pianist Lennie Tristano). Jazz In The Space Age was Russell’s third release as a leader (1960), and features pianists Bill Evans and Paul Bley, playing together through some highly complex, adventurous compositions encompassing the ethereal and Avante Garde, yet Very palletable. Nearly fifty years since it’s initial release, Jazz In The Space Age has aged well, Definitely standing the test of time. A classic,under-the-radar body of work!
