It’s a sad day today for Rock & Roll. Cramps lead singer Lux Interior passed on yesterday from an ongoing heart ailment,at 62 years old. Lux was an extraordinary personality, talent, record collector, and overall mad genius. His contribution to Rock & Roll was truly unique, being the true inventor and instigator of Psychobilly and horror rock. I remember seeing the Cramps live at Perkin’s Palace in Pasadena, around 1980 or so. It was one of those life changing gigs for me as a teenager and I’ll never forget what a great showman Mr. Lux was, especially when he shoved the entire end of the microphone in his mouth. “Don’t try this at home folks.”

I saw the Cramps at the Whisky around mid 1980, the Weirdos were billed to open up for them but when we got there the marquee read "The Alleycats" instead so it was a bit of a let down.It seems the Cramps' drummer set up his drums on the top level when he got to the club and refused to move them for Nicky Beat who was going to need the top level first. So the Weirdos cancelled and since the Alley Cats only needed the lower stage level being a 3-piece band, they wound up as the opening act. But the Cramps were great, Lux Interior was every bit a performer in the great punkabilly tradition. We also used to see him at the record trade shows in Hollywood and Pasadena collecting records, thanks a lot for posting this!
